How many power plants are there in Ghana?
There are currently approximately 21 power plants in Ghana with a combined installed capacity of about 5,083 MW Historically, the Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) has been dominated by hydroelectricity from run-of-river plants on the Volta, with The Volta River Authority (‘VRA’) owning over 80% of the total capacity.
How will GPGC power the new power plant in Ghana?
GPGC will power the new power plant in Ghana using advanced upgraded power plants transported from Italy. These power plants will utilize General Electric Sprint Gas Turbines (LM6000PD and LM6000PF). Both turbines have recently been fully serviced by General Electric. Together, they will provide a total of 107mw additional capacity into Ghana’s power grid.
Where does Ghana get its power from?
Ghana gets its power from various sources, including hydroelectricity, thermal fueled by crude oil, natural gas and diesel, solar, and imports from La Cote D’Ivoire. Ghana also exports power to Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso. Ongoing grid expansions would allow further exports to other neighboring countries in the sub region.
